- Zanpakuto -
Zanpaktou name: Takai-kasumi Hogosha ("Dead-mist Guardian")
Zanpaktou appearance:
Karin's zanpaku-to looks like your basic, average katana...well except for one small detail. Her zanpaku-to in its closed form is one of the shortest zanpaku-to ever to be wielded by a shinigami. The blade itself is very skinny and only ten inches long with a small hilt that is eight inches. On the hilt is a diamond woven pattern of green and black thread with a black base underneath. The end of the hilt and the hand guard are gold with intricate leaf patterns carved in. The steel of the blade slightly tinged green and has a wave pattern design going down the sides to the tip. The sheath is a very deep green, almost black, with black swirl patterns painted on. At the opening there is a gold tip with the same leaf patterns and about two inches below there is a bow tied on made of the same thread as the hilt. Karin keeps her katana strapped to her lower back where it lays horizontally.
Shikai Release Call: "Send them to their watery graves, Takai-kasumi Hogosha!"
Shikai Appearance:
The shikai release state stays in a sword-like form, but splits into two swords. The size of the largest sword, from the hilt to the tip of the blade, is also eighteen inches in length. The hilt is covered in woven black leather with relatively no hand guard. The blade starts out as a silver-green at the hilt and slowly grows darker to a deep green at the sharp point. Down the center of the blade is a bar consisting of six, thin rectangles that remain clear and see-through like glass. The second sword is similar to the first except it is only ten inches long, more like a dagger. Coloration and material on the hilt stay the same, but there are only three rectangular bars at the center. She generally only releases her shikai in the midst of battle then immediately puts them away afterward so therefore there is no scabbard.
Shikai Abilities:
Karin's shikai abilities take time to come into effect, although this may change as she becomes more familiar with her zanpaku-to. While in battle and in the shiaki release state, Takai-kasumi Hogosha has nine bars, meters really, three on the dagger and six on the small sword. With every cut Karin makes on the target, a bar fills (six must be made with the small sword and three with the dagger). When the bars are, finally, completely full, a ghastly fog starts to billow out of the ends of both weapons. This fog is toxic in large amounts, only Karin has a natural antidote in her blood. Not only can this fog serve as a poisonous weapon, but also as a defense, allowing Karin to hide deep in the fog and attack her foe from behind, while their only hint is a flash of a shadowy outline. This technique is appropriately named, "Kumori Kiri" or "Shadow Mist". The one other ability is titled "Shoutaku Rando", "Swamp Land". This move also takes time to occur. Karin must first complete a circle around the foe in the ground, then slam both blades into one point of the line. Once complete, the entire ground within the boundaries of the circle will turn to a swampy terrain, sucking the foe into the muddy water and muck. The shikai release also slightly increases Karin's general speed and force in her attacks.
Bankai Appearance:
Karin's Bankai begins with her yelling "Bankai, Chishi Tekai-kasumi Hogosha!" ("Fatal Dead-mist Guardian") and dropping both the dagger and the short sword to the ground. When they hit the land ripples like water. Suddenly, the entire land changes before the the eyes of the opponent(s) and Karin. This hallucination only affects Karin and whomever she is fighting. The land suddenly turns to a marsh and the sky grows dark and cloudy. Dead and broken trees are sticking up everywhere and mist shrouds almost all vision, skeletons of animals and even some humans that her zanpaku-to spirit has devoured can be seen at the bottom of the water. Over all, this is not a place you want to stay in for long periods of time (even Karin, herself cannot stand it). Karin is gone, hiding in the shadows. Her appearance has changed as well. A tail made of white bone can be seen coming out from her tail bone where it is attached to a dragon bone spine that covers her own and reaches up to the base of her neck. Her legs (from the knee down) and her arms (from the elbow down) have dragon bone armor around them with spikes coming out from underneath. Attached to the armor are the bone structure of dragon paws and feet that move with the motions of her own hands and feet (although, they are not attached to hers). Small bone wings have sprouted from the bone spine at about shoulder blade height (they are capable of short flights) and the skull of a dragon with a long snout and long, straight horns covers her entire face, and like a mask she can push it up off her face or down as a sort of helmet. Her shinigami kimono is ripped at the sleeves and at the bottom hem, they are soaked in water. This new appearance allows Karin to adapt to the setting so she will not get sucked into the muddy water of the marshland and also provides minor protection in battle. The entire phenomenon is called "Saishuu Kumori" or "Final Shadow". Being in Bankai state also drastically increases Karin's speed and slightly increases her attack force. She also is very stealthy in this state and can go almost undetected to those without keen hearing. Meanwhile, outside of her hallucination, surrounding people can only see a orb of mist, about thirty feet high. If anyone tries to enter the orb they will be lost in the fog until Karin is finished her battle and she reseals her zanpaku-to.
Bankai Abilities:
Karin's Bankai is a basic hallucination, it plays tricks on the foe's mind to make them believe that they have just been transported into a mysterious and dangerous swamp. In reality, though, the fog is just shaping and coloring itself to match Karin's Inner World, as a way to strike fear into her enemy or make it difficult for them to fight in the new terrain. Although, this hallucination has just as much of an affect on Karin as it does on the enemy. Therefore, her Bankai equips her with the dragon bone structure of her zanpaku-to's spirit. A tail for balance comes out from her tail bone and it is attached to a dragon bone spine that goes over her own spine. Her hands gain dragon armor from the elbow down to her wrist with large spikes coming out from underneath. Over her hands are skeletal dragon paws that move with her own hand even though they are not attached, this is to allow her to grip onto rocks and logs that are slimy or wet. From the knee down, her legs also gain the same armor as her arms in order to help Karin in the same way that the arms do. Her head, is cover in a dragon skull mask (that she can push up off her face or down to guard it) to help Karin see through the fog like her zanpaku-to's spirit and also keep out the stench of the swamp. A pair of small bone wings also grow out from the dragon spine at about shoulder blade height. They allow some flight over short distances to allow Karin to glide from rock to rock or tree branch to tree branch. Karin's overall speed also greatly increases and the force of her attacks increases as well. She can also move silently through the swamp terrain, letting her stalk up on her enemies before she attacks.
Zanpakuto Spirit:
Tekai-kasumi Hogosha is nothing like his wielder. The moss green dragon is sneaky and arrogant. He is always putting himself before other's needs and believes he is in control over Karin, not the other way around. His hobbies? Getting into people's heads. He loves to mess around and trick people into doing what he says through careful persuasion and sometimes even black mail. Takai-kasumi Hogosha will even cut into conversations and talk to Karin in her head, telling her what to say or do (though she tries not to listen most of the time.) in the Inner World, he has a special hollow tree that is large enough for him to curl up in. Karin sometimes finds herself sitting on a rock in front of it in her dreams.
Combat Prowess:
Karin, despite her size and age, is a strong and determined fighter, she does not give up in battle easily, or in anything for that matter. Although she has Shinigami abilities, they lay dormant in her soul, for now at least. Her main weapons? Her feet, fists, and a soccer ball. With only those three things she can actually lay some damage on a hollow, or even take out weak ones. Although, Karin posses no specific powers as we know of, but she does have one special technique of her own. Karin can take a soccer ball and wrap her spiritual energy around it in order to cause more damage and increase its speed while aimed at a enemy. Despite her lack where fighting is concerned, Karin is a strong and noble fighter and is always ready to protect those she cares about.
- Inner World -
Karin's Inner World is basically a dark, dank swamp. Trees and rocks can be seen poking out of the water and fog puts a thick coating over everything, making it difficult to see. The sky is always dark gray and cloudy, like a storm is coming. Water covers most of the area, if you look into it, you may even see some skeletons. The pungent stench of mud and rotting plants and trees fills the air. Takai-kasumi Hogosha lives in a hollow hole of the largest tree in the center of the swamp. He once told Karin in her dreams that this place expressed the pain, sadness, and worry she has felt and kept bottled up inside of her over the years.
- The Three Dimensions Of A Character -
Appearance:
Karin is fairly short, only about 4'4", with short black hair that falls to about her shoulders. Her complexion is pale and she has large black eyes. Like her older brother, Ichigo, she rarely smiles and prefers to keep her emotions inside.
Since she has a tomboy personality, you will generally see her dressed in shorts, sneakers, a baseball hat, and some sort of t-shirt or soccer jersey.
Personality:
Karin is very down to earth and realistic. She isn't really pessimistic, but she isn't one to get her hopes up. Karin tends to keep her emotions bottled up inside of her instead of letting them out. If she does end up showing them, though, she masks them with anger. She also never gets really excited (except maybe for soccer). when it comes to the whole "seeing ghosts' thing, she could care less and finds it more of a blessing rather than a curse.
Karin is not a very talkative one either. She keeps her conversations short and to the point. When she does strike up a conversation, she isn't afraid to express her mind. In arguments, she never gives in until she comes out on top and she never takes crap from anyone (her reaction to it generally starts the fight).
History:
Karin Kurosaki was born only a few seconds before her twin sister, Yuzu, on May 6. She has one older brother, ichigo, and two loving parents. Up until the age of five, Karin was your average child. She had friends, loved to play soccer, and loved to spend time with her family. Unfortunately, when Karin turned five, her mother was found dead, killed by a hollow. ever since then, the family has...changed. Yuzu fills the role of mother to the Kurosaki family, cleaning and making dinner, while her father, Isshin (A.k.a - Papa Goat-Face) works. Ichigo learned to cope in his own way, never smiling and always keeping to himself. Karin almost completely separated herself from the family (similar to Ichigo). She began to keep to herself, bottling up her emotions, and instead acting realistic or tough to hide any pain she may be feeling.
When Karin turned eleven, she began to notice things. She had always been able to see spirits (although she was never to happy about that matter) but now strange creatures began to appear to. They were like animals, and she could always see them, their roars would ring in her ears...Hollows. Karin also saw strange people dressed in black kimonos and carrying katanas around. She was even more surprised when she realized her brother was one of them...Shinigami. As much as she questioned him on the subject, he would just avoid it.
Recently, Karin has also been suffering nightmares, although she would never admit to them. They were always the same dream and she would always wake up in the middle of the night with a start and in a cold sweat. The dream never changed, she would be sitting on a rock in a terrible swamp. The air would be thick with fog and the scent of decay, she dare not look into the watery depths below her. Karin would keep her eyes on the large tree in front of her, the one with a hole in its center. Scratch marks were clawed into the bark, a low hiss and breathing could be heard from it. Eyes flashed yellow in the dark abyss of the hollow tree, movement could be heard from inside, something was coming out...Karin would wake up, every time at the moment the creature would come out. Not only were the dreams bugging her in her night, but in the morning as well! Whenever she closed her eyes she could see the dank marshland and hear the movement and the sly hissing voice laughing at her, calling her name. The voice would ring in her head all day. Karin manages to block the voice most of the time so she can focus, but at night it is a hopeless cause. She refuses to tell anyone though, not wanting to come across looking like a freak. So for now Karin stays quiet about the dreams, but when the time is right she may let it spill.
